When considering quercetin, we at Source Naturals® are reminded of the movie Shrek. What could the titular cartoon ogre and a plant pigment possibly have in common? If you’re not familiar with the film, Shrek offers this insightful analogy to indicate he has more to offer than meets the eye: “Ogres are like onions…we both have layers.” Just like Shrek, quercetin (which can coincidentally be found in onions), also has multiple layers and much to give. At least, that’s how we see it, and how we view our quercetin formulas in light of its recently discovered benefits.*

Previously, quercetin was renowned for its antioxidant and cellular support—the foundational layer of its many benefits. It’s second layer, based on evidence that it prevents histamine release from immune cells, is support for respiratory comfort during spring. It’s now a quadruple threat, as recent preliminary studies show that it also supports healthy inflammatory and immune responses.^ In particular, it participates in healthy cytokine modulation, and works with other nutrients to support healthy gene expression necessary for immune system activity. At a time when immune support remains top of mind, we decided to utilize quercetin to its fullest.*

As the preeminent formula containing 1,000 mg each of quercetin & N-acetyl cysteine (NAC), our new Wellness N-A-Cetin™ Immune Protocol delivers crucial immune defense. It builds upon each layer of quercetin’s support by targeting healthy antioxidant, respiratory, inflammatory, and immune responses with seven powerhouse ingredients. These include high potencies of zinc and vitamins C & D3, as well as bromelain for absorption and copper to balance high zinc intake. Taken daily or at the start of an immune imbalance, the new formula gets your immune system primed and ready for action.*

For a formula that best utilizes quercetin’s spring support qualities, there’s Aller-Response®. It delivers 950 mg of quercetin, plus nettle, to help inhibit histamine release. It also features herbs like amla and turmeric, highly regarded in ayurveda, as well as ginger and Andrographis—all of which have been traditionally used to support lung, bronchial, and immune health. The formula then adds bromelain for absorption, along with high potencies of vitamins A & C and zinc for mucous membrane and cellular support that contributes to the health of the sinuses and lungs.*

As quercetin’s popularity soars, one thing seems clear: once you start peeling back its benefits, you’ll find another just waiting to be uncovered. And with spring just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to investigate how you can make quercetin work for you.*

^Not all inflammation is associated with disease states. Inflammation is also the body’s healthy immune response to life’s normal stressors such as strenuous exercise or an occasional high-fat/high-calorie meal. The body’s inflammation response to life’s occasional, normal stressors is important for optimal health.
